I’ve recently purchased some Iris components from Ebay and it seems if the devices are paired with another Hub before, then you may need to reset them so it can be added to yours.

You may also try resetting if your having general issues trying to add devices to your Iris hub too.

Setting chimes for a door sensors can be useful when your home alone, and like to be aware of your surroundings.

I’ve set this up so our keypads will chime when any of any of our doors open. I’ve notice the usefulness of this when my in-law came over and open our garage door when I wasn’t aware they were coming to our house. Apparently they told my wife and at least I wasn’t too surprised when I meet them out side.

To do this you need to configure two things.

1) On the Device section you need to click on the “manage” button on the contact sensor which you like to enable to make a chime.

Today I created a control group of power strips so I can turn them off when they are not in use.

I started looking to create a group under the “Devices” tab and “Magic” tab with no success. While looking around I discovered that I need to be on the “Home” tab and click on the “Control” box.

What products will Lowe’s Iris integrate in the future?

I’ve recently replied to a comment that what helped me decided to use Lowe’s Iris system was the future scalability. I believe Lowe’s has the leverage to bring more vendors to integrate with Iris and set a price point where is accessible to the average consumer. Below is a list of what I’ve found that’s is coming in the future.

Smoke detector (Youtube Video at 1:05)

Smoke Detector

From the video it does look like it’s made from First Alert and from the way it looks like I’m guessing it’s the model SA511CN2-3ST.

Irrigation timer -Landscape Light Controller – Hose Tap Timer

These three components are from Orbit and this is what I had found.

1) Irrigation timer – It has to be one of the following on Orbit’s product page.
2) Landscape Light Controller – I can’t find this, but it looks like their irrigation timer refitted to be used for light control.
3) Hose-Tap Timer – This seems to be similar to the part Orbit calls “1 Dial Hose Faucet Timer“.

I’ve decided to install a second keypad in the bedroom. The keypad was the only thing that helped created a visual trigger to remind me to set the partial alarm every night.

If your morning is as crazy as ours? Is just trying to get the kids to eat their breakfast, dressed and be glad they have their shoes on when we leave the house is an daily accomplishment? Then I’m assuming sometimes you may just rush out and forget the arm the Iris system. If so then you may want to consider a Iris key fob.

Range Extender or Smart Plug to extend my range for devices?

From my past post about devices disconnecting. I’ve suggested to use either a range extender or smart plug which can also acts like a range extender too.

Even though both cost the same price I can see how some people may say how the smart plug would be a better value because of the additional features.

That statement can be true but they may not know that the range extender also comes with a internal battery. So the answer really depends on what devices which you are trying to extend the range for.

Inside Range Extender

Internal battery in range extender

If you’re using the range extenders for the motion sensor, siren, door/window sensor then I would suggest you get the range extender and not the smart plug. The reason for this is because if you ever lose electrical power then these devices can still work for you. While the smart plug will just stop working.

If you rush out one day after setting your Iris alarm and a minute later you get a notification of an intruder alert that the motion sensor was triggered. Then you may need to increase the delay time between setting and activation under the alarm configuration page.
