Some good safety tip reminders.

Home Controls

A master thief's home-security tipsWalter T. Shaw – a one-time member of the Dinner Set Gang, the most infamous burglary ring in America – recently told MSN Money there’s never been a home he couldn’t get into.  “There are weak spots everywhere,” he says.

But Shaw, a retired professional burglar who was never caught in the act but served 11 years in prison after a member of his gang turned him in, says a few tweaks here and changes there will fortify your fortress, making it much harder for burglars to get in.

Shaw, now in his 60s and a co-author of the book “A License to Steal” is sharing his secrets.

Find out how the man who says he knocked off more than 2,200 homes, including those of Liberace and the Firestone family, says you can keep crooks from paying you a visit.

In a post regarding the garage door controller, I’ve found that the company which manufactured the garage door controller had acquired a company called 2GIG. This was interesting to me because 2GIG has a whole product lineup of home automation devices. I had hoped Lowe’s would use this connection to expand on providing more options to the Iris platform like a touch screen control panel.

Thanks to James Isenberg who informed me if I use the “Test Drive” option I can then view the Irrigation interface before getting our hands on the Orbit Iris Hose Faucet Water Timer which is now shipping.

Besides reviewing how the irrigation function will work, you can also see how simple the pet door interface is, and a few new control options.

The most interesting part about this test drive is the “Service Status” page.

Allison

Sorry everyone but this post won’t be about Iris but a personal message regarding street safety and driving.

Today would have been my daughter 4th birthday and forever be a difficult one to deal with.

For those who doesn’t know you can hear what happen from my interview with WNYC radio regarding the tragic day on October 6 2013.

Allison

For our family this is a constant reminder on how fragile life is and how much we need to change the driving culture. Too many people are driving while distracted, texting, talking on the cell phone, speeding, DWI, and etc….

Just in New York City every 33 hours someone dies in traffic violence, and every year in New York City 70,000 people are injured by a vehicle and they are considered lucky.
I’m not sure about you but I don’t know how lucky it is to be missing limbs and having fracture skulls.

So next time when you drive please also remember to pause. Ask. Is it worth it?
