Hub update Version 4.02r05

I’m assuming most of you already know there was a hub update in the morning of 9/2 and normally I would try to be one of the first to upgrade and post what’s new, but it seems the upgrade wasn’t available to me in the early morning and I finally just getting a chance to post this now after getting everyone to bed.

So what’s new with this version?

Well besides the general statement about performance enhancement and bug fixes. You should notice on the device page that there’s an extra “AO Smith Water Heater” listed as coming soon.

AO Smith InstallAO Smith Water Heater is the Wi-Fi device which will allow you to connect Iris to a line of energy smart electric water heater that are available since 2011. From playing with the setting under test drive mode on the iPhone, it seems you can set the water heater to the following three settings. Schedule, hold and the option for “Energy Smart” mode.

Glass Break and Water Shut-offI would really like to tell you when this water heater module is available for sale but I don’t have that information. However I can mention to you that the glass break sensor and water shut-off valve which were introduced from the last hub update will be for sale around October.

That’s it for now. If you notice something different about this hub update please feel free to comment on this post to let everyone else know. Thanks!

Whilpool-Energy Smart

Since CES 2013 we knew Whirlpool water heaters was to connect with with Iris one day by showing how they would connect the water heater to what I’ve heard would be an Wi-Fi enabled device.
EnergySmart Connector

While trying unsuccessfully to find this unnamed device I decided to look for the water heater which may look similar to the image and found a list off them where they all are set for “Yes” to “Iris Technology” under the specification section.

Whirlpool 50 Gallons 9-Year Regular Electric Water Heater

Whirlpool 40 Gallons 12-Year Regular Electric Water Heater

Unlike the other new devices we found for Iris which normally show not available for sale, these water heaters has been available since 2011 by checking the dates from the reviews people have written about these water heaters.

Do you have one already?

New Lowe's Iris Honey well at CES 2014

In the same video from the last post, you might have notice a quick shot of the above image for the Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats.

Honeywell for Lowe's Iris at CES 2014

I had to double check the video to make sure those thermostats were from the same booth and not from a different location which I’ve highlighted above.

Both of these product is listed at lowe’s.com but the specification doesn’t list them as Iris compatible yet.

AEOTEC Meter Reader

I recently find this video from CES 2014 but it seems to be in a different setting then all the other videos I’ve seen for the event. At this section of the video Kevin Meagher was introducing the section for Iris regarding energy monitoring and also explained a little bit about the smart energy meter connecting to a USB stick where we had found on lowes.com but was recently taken down.

AEOTECH productsKevin however didn’t mention about the product right next the smart energy meter where it’s also a meter reader but from AEOTEC.COM.

AEOTEC creates other Z-Wave products, like the Z-Wave enabled LED light bulbs, recessed door sensor, and power strips. I’ve tried to find a better image of AEOTEC meter reader but it seems the best one I’ve found was on a video for AEON Labs (prior to their name change to AEOTEC) where they have gave a little description and close up of the meter reader.

Thanks to James Isenberg who informed me if I use the “Test Drive” option I can then view the Irrigation interface before getting our hands on the Orbit Iris Hose Faucet Water Timer which is now shipping.

Besides reviewing how the irrigation function will work, you can also see how simple the pet door interface is, and a few new control options.

The most interesting part about this test drive is the “Service Status” page.
