I’ve mentioned in a past post that a new device called IVEE has plans to work with Iris. I’m glad to say one of my readers James Isenberg found that you can purchase IVEE from Staples.com and took the plunge and got one. He was also nice enough to write a whole review for it. So today I’m taking a break and letting him take control. 😉

The Ivee Sleek is a clock that promises to take voice activation to the home.  It connects to wifi an as long as your home automation system has a web interface it should work.  It is a great concept as long as it works, so does it? I have had mine for several weeks now and it actually does a pretty good job.

I went to visit myeyesoniris.com and found that there is news regarding the Iris Guarge Door Controller.

MyEyesOnIrisGarageDoorController

The news is released from CEpro.com where they explain that it’s made from a company called Linear and it will work with your existing garage door opener and it runs on Z-Wave. They also mention that it will be sold for $99 and will be shipped on March 2014.

That’s great but I couldn’t just stop here, and had to find out more about this Linear (linearcorp.com) company.

StateFarm25off

Found that State Farm has a site for home automation and monitoring systems. The site list out the comparison for ADT and Lowe’s Iris and offer a $25 discount for 2 of the starter kits. I test out the discount it does seem to work prior to checking out. Here’s the link if anybody is interested.

I need to credit reader fmollenkopf for his comment on 10/7/13 regarding the blind controller is from the company somfysystems.com. I wasn’t able to verify the video which he mention which is why I didn’t provide it on yesterdays post.

I was however able to verify that the information does show on the Bali website where you need to click on the tab for “Home automation” and you’ll notice the line that says “The new Z-Wave to Radio Technology Somfy® Interface (ZRTSI) enables motorized blinds and shades to be compatible with Z-wave based home automation systems“

Bali-site-on-SomfyThe odd thing is that I wasn’t able to find this controller (ZRTSI) on the Somfy website, but I did find it at automatedshadestore.com where they state it’s a new product since 9/16/2013 and they even provided a PDF installation instructions from Somfy.

I’ve received a few interesting comments from readers since I last posted on 10/5. Thank you all for commenting I really appreciate them!

So instead of posting them individual and bombard people who sign up for email updates. I decided to just make one post which will list them out.

**From reader Scott**

Lowes released an infomercial promoting the Iris system. They asked me to be part of the customer testimonials so I said yes. There’s mention to a garage door monitor with remote opening/closing. Maybe with the release of the infomercial, they will finally get some of their ‘coming soon’ products on the shelves.

Staples in the market for home automation too.

While browsing on their site at NYCE Controls, I found that they are partnering with a few other vendors one of which is called zonoff.com. Zonoff have seem to successfully made a deal with staples.com to startup a new branding called Staples Connect.

Staples Connect

Staples Connect is still in the works because not all the links work at the moment and they haven’t show any other products besides the hub.

I think this is the second big box store to start offering a full home automation solution. Hopefully this is a good sign that more people are interested making their home a little smarter and I think a little competition is always a good thing.
