Recently I’ve been having a lot of browser timeout session issues and I’ve been going from one browser to another. Now each different browser would start having the following message once I log in to Lowe’s Iris portal.

Session Timeout

To resolve this issue for me I needed to clear out the Java temp files in windows Control panel.

You may notice the same discrepancy like the example I have below when you receive an alarm notification.

Inaccurate triggered deviceIt seems all the text, email and phone calls from Iris will provide the inaccurate device that was triggered. While your history will provide the correct device.

I’ve contacted Iris support regarding this and they are already working hard to get this resolved.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon because it will save me time by not having to review the history first before knowing which camera view to check up on.

I had decided to replace my old light switch with the GE light switch that will work with Lowe’s Iris and didn’t have much luck.

I found out that my light switch has two wires and it seems the GE requires a third one that is called “Neutral” or it won’t work at all.

update 7/12/2013

I still have issues with my hub disconnecting but I think there might be some networking, or router issue but still not sure.

I’ll keep this post up in case someone has the same router and like to try the solution.
#######################

From a recommendation from an Iris user I’ve reconfigured my router to see if it help stop my Iris hub from disconnecting.

Before I even start these are the following resources I think you may find helpful if you have a similar Verizon router.

When I created the post for shutting off devices using the smart plug, I originally set the rule to turn on the smart plug when disabling the alarm. Regardless if it was for “On” or “Partial”.

Alarm off to power on smart plug

While testing this it seems the smart plugs doesn’t turn on all the time. There wasn’t any pattern or anything that made sense to me. So I’ve contacted Iris support and found that this is indeed a known issue at this time. This is why I had  reconfigured the rule to turn on the smart plug when the motion sensor sees movement, and it happens to be more consistent.

If you know of any other magic rule issues please place a comment. This is so we all know if there is a specific issue and it’s one less thing for us to guess if it’s working, and hopefully try to create a workaround for it.

I had recently called up Iris support regarding resetting my devices and they mentioned that the trouble shooting steps they provided me was actually online. I’ve asked them where because I never found them. They lead me to their FAQ section for trouble shooting.

So if you run into some issues with one of Lowe’s Iris product and like to do some of your own trouble shooting before contacting support then you may like to review their web site regarding their online FAQ for trouble shooting first. (I’ve also found that their “Community Q&A” are useful too.)

To find this trouble shooting FAQ section you need to go to their webpage on http://www.Lowes.com/iris

1) Click on “Customer Support”

I’ve recently purchased some Iris components from Ebay and it seems if the devices are paired with another Hub before, then you may need to reset them so it can be added to yours.

You may also try resetting if your having general issues trying to add devices to your Iris hub too.

What to do if Iris devices keep disconnect and reconnecting

With in a few a week after I’ve paired my basement window sensor it seems to disconnect/reconnect once a week or so.  When reviewing the device setting I’ve notice that the signal strength was full bars.

Signal Strength

I’ve thought it might be related to how cold the basement is because batteries normally don’t run well in very cold temperature. Later I find out that it would  disconnected during warmer days too.

By this time I’m thinking that the window sensor is defective. I had a spare motion sensor which I was still deciding where to install, so instead of replacing the window sensor I stuck on the motion sensor in the same room as what I thought was the defective window sensor.

One week later I would either have the window sensor or the motion sensor disconnect, but never both.  To get them reconnected again I would take out the batteries and put them back in.  I then check the signal strength and both would be full bars. Now I’m just confused.
